1997-1999
DT - November, 1999
For the second time in thirteen months, Carmen is on the cover of the spanish DT magazine. John Russo shot these photos. They did a lot of digital enhancements, which didn't seem called for. They removed the straps of her top for the cover shot, and then they turned it black for another pic. I have a feeling this session had some shots that were much more gorgeous than what they used. But hey, when these came out it had been ages since Carmen fans had seen a new photo-spread, so we were all thrilled!
Hello! - September, 1999
Us Magazine Shoot - July, 1999
This shoot was originally done for the July 1999 issue of US magazine, which actually only printed one shot. The rest of the shots were printed in various foreign magazines such as Slitz, Hot Dog, German FHM and HitKrant. Marc Baptiste shot these photos on the beaches of LA. I seem to have misplaced that tape that contains the Access Hollywood segment from this photo shoot- I'm still looking for it though!
Muscle & Fitness - February, 1999
As far as I know, Muscle & Fitness was the only US magazine cover she had durring her Hyperion Bay period. The magazine wasn't a disappointment though. The cover itself isn't her best shot but the pics inside are great! It has lots of pictures of her doing Tae-Bo with Billy Blanks and a small artical about her fitness routine. I've only included a few of the pics here because I'm saving the rest for her "fitness" section that I will have up later.
DT - October, 1998
This photo spread, shot by Greg Gorman, is my favorite of the two DT's she's done. I was so happily suprized when I first opened this magazine and found page after page of new pics. I particularly love the black and white pictures with the black background- you may remember those images from the front page of this website, when it was just a little baby.
I'll be rescanning both issues of DT soon- these scans I obviously don't do the photos justice!
Drink - September, 1998
These photos really should have been added ages ago- sorry for the delay. This came out at the same time Carmen did the episode of Just Shoot Me, so that's why she's with David Spade. The photos are by Stephen Sigoloff, and the magazine insists that Carmen and David were together for the shoot- but the outcome of the pics of them "together" is somewhat suspicious.
Smoke - Winter, 1997/1998
Jeff Katz was the photographer of what I think it one of the best photo spreads of Carmen, ever! They are so unconventional and I think they bring out such a cool and dramatic part of her personality. She's mentioned that this shoot was inspired by the movie, A Clockwork Orange. I think Carmen looks like a movie star here. She was very happy about the results as well, as she mentioned in one of her weekly chats:
"Did you all see Smoke magazine? I was so excited when I saw the way it turned out. You know, you do these wild things for the shoot... And then it's all in someone else's hands. So frightening!"
Eight years later: These nice high res outtakes surfaced on the internet. Yay!
Details - October, 1997
Carmen appeared on the inside flap of Details magazine along with the "sexiest babes of tv." She's only in two shots, by Mathew Rolston, but both of them are great. It's my assumption that this third uncredited picture if from the same shoot, but I don't know for sure. What always comes to my mind when I see the black pic is the crate she must be standing on behind that sheet to make up for the mile difference in height with Garcelle. Just look at the length of that thigh! Carmen talked about the results on AOL shortly after it came out:
"I had a blast! I had no idea how the cover would turn out but I think it...I think it's wildly
sexy. I'm so proud to be a part of that cover I just saw the DETAILS billboard that is up on
Sunset Blvd. And even though I'm in it I think it's super cool."
Young & Modern - September, 1997
YM is one of the only womens magazines Carmen has been on the cover of, and also one of the earliest. The sweet "girl next door" photos were shot by Jon Ragel. Every once in a while some outtakes will run in foreign magazines and I'm still in the process of gathering them. This piece also had some Singled Out stills, but of course those are on the Singled Out page of this site.
Maxim - September/October, 1997
Maxim is obviously one of Carmen's most popular photo shoots- maybe it's because they are some of the oldest photos, so they've had more time to spread around the net. Andrew Eccless shot these photos that ran in US and UK Maxim, French Max, Australian Max and a variety of other foreign magazines. Carmen has mentioned these are a favorite of hers. They honestly have never been a favorite of mine, but I generally tend to dislike Maxim's photo shoots. (I get sick of their oiled-up-on-the-bathroom-tiles predictability.)
Men's Perspective - August, 1997
Mens's Perspective is a magazine that went out of business shortly after she appeared on the cover. The pictures, by Blake Little, are really sexy. The clothes and styling of this shoot define her personal style of that year, more than any other. Carmen loved the shoot and talked about it on AOL:
"We shot in a loft on Santa Monica Blvd. It was fun... Actually, one of my favorite photo shoots. Along with Maxim magazine. I shot pictures on these really cool blow up couches and chairs. And I got to wear super sexy clothes. Hot pants and high heels. And I got to do all kinds of funky positions... Many that never got used. Oh well."
Many of the funky pics she was talking about got used later for People Onlines "Exclusive Photo Album." Some also ran in foreign magazines.
FHM - June, 1997
Carmen appeared on the cover of the very popular UK magazine, FHM in June of 97. Richard McClaren shot these incredibly cool photos. Many extra shots have run in other foreign magazines.
Bikini - April, 1997
Only Bikini magazine would think to put devil horns on our sweet little Carmen! This photo shoot, by John Eder, deffinitely shows her darker side! This is actually another Dave/Carmen link, prior to their relationship, because Dave's cousin helped run the magazine and Dave often contributed. The last page of the Carmen story actually has a Dave piece on the other side. Unfortunately the magazine is no longer in business.
Axcess - March, 1997
The photos in Axcess are much softer and more natural than the others, and I think they really show her beauty. They were taken by photographer Greg Henry.
